Many people have struggled during these tough years of the pandemic. Children and adolescents have experienced this time of isolation and disconnection in ways we will be discovering for years. At SUWS, we offer students a reset from that disconnected way of being through the power of relationship and connection to the natural world. We think of it as a rite of passage into empowerment. We use ceremony, games, initiatives, ropes course, and survival skills, amongst other things, to help facilitate this powerful experience. SUWS is not just a 'treatment program' it is an opportunity to break free from self-limiting patterns. - Many of our students display self-defeating behaviors and destructive decision-making patterns. We seek to help them to identify instead with the positive attributes they already possess. Students try different, more helpful ways of communicating, and problem solving. All of which cultivate a desire for growth. We believe this desire for growth and positive connection is in each of us. Our students leave empowered to walk a long road of growth while staying present to the here and now. They become more aware, self-reliant, and better able to sustain meaningful relationships, with a higher level of personal integrity and resiliency.
