Posting Details Position Information Posting Number F0093 Department Visiting Assistant Professor of Dance Rank Specialization Tenure Status Non Tenure Track Position Summary The University of North Carolina Asheville, the UNC system's designated public liberal arts institution, invites applications for a full-time one-year Visiting Assistant Professor in Dance for the 2019-2020 academic year. The position will report to the Chair of the Drama Department. Individuals with a passion for undergraduate teaching and experience at an institution focused on the liberal arts are strongly encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be expected to teach 12 contact hours per semester in courses that may include movement research, contemporary dance, dance studies, conditioning, improvisation, and composition. Courses related to the candidate's artistic and scholarly interests will also be considered. The candidate will participate in all official faculty meetings, retreats, convocations, and department meetings; assist in student recruitment, registration and special advising periods if requested; contribute to the ongoing development and assessment of dance curricula; and produce at least one co-curricular dance-focused campus/community event. The UNC Asheville faculty is committed to disciplinary teaching through an inter- and multi--disciplinary lens and providing a premiere liberal arts education. Faculty members teach across the University's Liberal Arts Core (LAC) program, our required interdisciplinary liberal arts curriculum in courses that include, but are not limited to: introductory (freshman) colloquia; diversity intensives; courses that satisfy the Scientific Perspectives, Social Science courses and Arts and Ideas requirements; courses within the Humanities Program; and LAC Senior Capstone courses. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications 1.Credentials appropriate for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, Terminal degree M.F.A., Ph.D. or ED.D. in Dance or a related field and evidence of excellence in teaching and creative activity/scholarship. 2.Evidence of interdisciplinary collaboration that works across institutional, disciplinary, and community divides. 3.Evidence of successful teaching in Dance at the undergraduate level. 4.Commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population and sensitivity toward UNCA's core values of diversity, inclusion, innovation and sustainability. 5.The ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Preferred Qualifications 1.Teaching expertise in at least two of the following areas: Contemporary dance, Modern dance, Critical Studies in Dance, Cultural Studies in Dance, Somatic Studies, Conditioning for dancers, Critical Pedagogy, Composition. 2.Demonstrated ability to advise and mentor the aesthetic and scholarly development of undergraduate dance minors in their creative and academic work. 3.Evidence of a profile in creative activity and/or scholarship of community engagement.
