Job Description:
Summary: ASPCA Spay/Neuter Alliance (ASNA) is the premier
training center for high-quality, high-volume companion animal
sterilization. Altering 20,000 shelter, rescue, and publicly owned
companion animals annually, ASNA has trained more than 6,000
veterinary professionals and fourth year veterinary student externs
at our campus in Asheville, NC since 2005. ASNA is proud to set the
bar for the standard of care in HQHVSN and provide world-class spay
and neuter surgical instruction to veterinary professionals and
students. The Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) is the hub of
ASNA's daily medical operations and serves as the informational and
executional conduit between veterinarians, veterinary and kennel
assistants, peer RVTs, transport partners, ASNA transport
operations, and clients. A role with much responsibility, the RVT
is charged with receiving and executing directives from
veterinarians, providing medical leadership to the veterinary and
kennel assistant teams, medical and surgical floor duties,
prescription drug handling, and medical records. The person in this
role must possess diplomatic and outstanding communication skills,
an innate ability to perform as a team member and independently,
and an unrelenting determination to be high functioning and perform
their duties consistent with best practices. Fundamental
expectations for this role are providing impeccable care to
surgical patients, eagerly assisting veterinarians, veterinary
assistants, and kennel assistants in pre, peri, and postoperative
duties, participating in facility upkeep and maintenance, and
enthusiastically hosting clients and visiting trainees. This
position reports to the Director, Medical Support [Logistics or
Ops] (DMSL or DMSO) and is based in Asheville, North Carolina.
Responsibilities: Responsibilities will include, but are not
limited to: Medical Duties, Support, and Training (95%) Provide
impeccable animal care throughout the patient's ASNA experience
Provide a safe and compassionate environment for animals in our
care, our staff, and our clients by using low-stress handling
techniques Participate in mentoring visiting trainees relative to
veterinary technician duties Participate in onboarding and training
ASNA registered veterinary technicians and other staff Participate
in overall ASNA facilities upkeep and maintenance including
cleaning, inventory and stocking, and organization Drive transport
vehicles as needed Perform the daily medical duties of a veterinary
technician which include but are not limited to: Assistance to
veterinarians, veterinary assistants, and kennel assistants Medical
and surgical duties expected of a graduate and licensed registered
veterinary technician Drug handling including controlled substances
in compliance with DEA regulations, ASNA protocols, and all other
federal, state, and local laws Medical leadership for veterinary
assistants and kennel assistants Flow of daily operations and
surgical teams Patient emergency support Medical paperwork
Participate in relationships and communications with public clients
and transport partners relative to customer service and patient
care Perform the supportive medical duties of a veterinary
technician which include but are not limited to: Equipment
operation and maintenance Inventory control including expendables
and drugs Upkeep and maintenance of medical, surgical, and kennel
areas All duties of a veterinary assistant as needed All duties of
a kennel assistant as needed Professional Development and

adhere to all federal, state, and local regulations A positive

Participate in assigned ASNA department and program specific
projects and any other assigned commitments to support ASPCA 2030
goals Travel up to 15% as needed Serve in any role qualified for as
needed Perform all other duties as assigned by the DMS (L or O) or

over this weight with assistance, and the ability to consistently
stand, bend, lift, and climb during the course of a regular work
shift Ability and willingness to travel up to 15% of the time as
needed Education and Work Experience: Degree of Registered
Veterinary Technician or equivalent from an American Veterinary
Medical Association Committee on Veterinary Technician Education
and Activities (AVMA CVTEA) accredited program OR a Canadian
Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) accredited veterinary
technology program Passing of the Veterinary Technician National
Exam (VTNE) Possess valid NC registered veterinary technician
license or obtain one within 60 days of hiring Preferred 1 year
experience as a registered veterinary technician in a clinical
setting Fear Free Shelter certification within 60 days of hire
Compensation and Benefits: Starting pay for the successful
applicant will depend on a variety of factors, including but not
limited to education, training, experience, location, business
needs, internal equity, market demands or budgeted amount for the
role. The target hiring range is for new hire offers only, and
staff compensation may increase beyond the maximum hiring range
based on performance over time. The maximum of the hiring range is
reserved for candidates with the highest qualifications and
relevant experience. The expected hiring salary range for this role
is set forth below and may be modified in the future. The target
