The full-time Design Director provides graphic design, illustration and creative solutions for a variety of print and digital projects, with a particular expertise in package design. This leader will help refine and define the evolving Gaia Herbs design language on packaging, digital marketing, and all aspects of the company's visual communications needs, to help the products and brand shine on shelves and screens. (S)he will ensure that all creative design projects achieve the singular focus to connect with new and loyal Gaia Herbs customers, in the most impactful and meaningful way. In addition to communicating the company's creative vision to the internal design team and stakeholders, the Design Director supervises the entire design process, internal and outside designers, and all-important technical decisions. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Creates exceptional creative and design solutions for packaging, digital and print needs to set the standard for the rest of the design team
• Provides guidance, inspiration, and leadership to the design team to consistently produce best-in-class creative and design solutions
• Manages, mentors, and encourages the design team to foster a highly productive and positive work environment
• Shoulders the responsibility of the quality and on-time completion of all projects assigned to members of the creative team
• Participates in and provides regular opportunities for professional development and growth to team
• Reports progress of projects at major stages of their conception, creation, and execution
• Ensures designs and content consistently and positively reflects the brand image, company ideals, and target consumers
• Study industry trends and the competition to consistently innovate and to continue to position Gaia Herbs as the #1 premium herbal brand in America
• Partner with external consultants such as, photographers, filmmakers, illustrators, designers to produce the best creative output based on detailed creative briefs, project objectives, consumer insights, etc.
• Serve as a liaison between the marketing and creative team, and between the creative team and internal clients SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES The Design Director will manage four direct reports: Project Manager, Art Director, Graphic Designer, and Production Artist. Requirements QUALIFICATIONS Education and/or Experience --- A Bachelors or Masters in Graphic Design or Graphic Arts. --- 10+ years of in-house or Agency experience as a hands-on graphic design leader (with strong CPG experience) --- An exceptional design portfolio with examples of package design and creative campaigns Knowledge, Skills & Abilities --- Expert proficiency with latest Adobe CC: Illustrator, InDesign, & Photoshop (Motion graphics in Aftereffects and Video editing in Premier a strong plus). --- Confidently articulates clear rationales for creative and design decisions in writing and/or in meetings --- Effectively lead brainstorm sessions with your design team that produces big ideas, clear vision, and next steps --- High level of comfort interacting with company leaders and executives --- Active, ongoing professional development in the areas of graphic design, packaging design, design trends, etc. --- Professional business skills, such as negotiation, project management, and leadership --- Talent in presenting information concisely and accurately, with keen attention to detail --- Ability to manage creative professionals to produce their best work, on time and on brand.-- --- Ability to take the initiative to self-direct and anticipate needs that may not be directly assigned.-- --- Proven ability to prioritize multiple simultaneous projects, working within aggressive deadlines, and adapt to change in a healthy way. --- Ability to learn project management tools (Basecamp, Smartsheet, Teams). While performing the duties of this job, the employee may have occasion to pass through manufacturing and farming environments, where s/he may be exposed to moving mechanical parts.
