Summary As the Surveying Services Manager, you will complete, review, and sign surveys, manage surveyors and field teams, and develop the surveying related components of a project scope including fees for services, contract negotiation, project budgeting and scheduling, and client communication. You will also assist management in development and vision for the surveying program. Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for surveying project budgets and schedules, including setting fees for services, contract negotiation, project budgeting and scheduling, and client communication.
  • Coordinate and review work of Surveyors, Field Technicians, and CAD Operators.
  • Stamp and sign surveys as the responsible Surveyor in Charge.
  • Responsible for QA/QC for all survey deliverables and ensure projects are executed in accordance with company policies and standards.
  • Communicate technical issues with Project Managers, Practice Area Leaders, and Office Managers.
  • Hire, supervise, and mentor all Survey Team staff members including licensed Surveyors, Survey Field Technicians, CAD Operators, etc. and provide feedback and opportunities for professional development.
  • Prepare surveying maps, drawings, and aerial photographs related to terrain, project sites, and topographical and boundary surveys for preliminary and final design.
  • Operate and direct others in the operation of the company's survey instrumentation used in the collection or distribution of survey data including but not limited to total stations, data collectors, drones, and levels. Transmit survey data to the proper files in the computer network and acquire the data for field use.
  • Use computer assisted surveying software, i.e. AutoCAD Civil 3D, to prepare surveys for use in engineering and design drawings and documents.
  • Generate contour maps and alignments for staking points for construction surveys.
  • Write legal descriptions for a variety of legal instruments.
  • Communicate with contractors about construction staking requests.
  • Communicate with field crews about scheduling of projects. Provide direction of field crews regarding project scope.
  • Occasionally participate in completing field surveys.
  • Assist with proposals, interviews, and presentations when needed. Manage business development and marketing responsibilities to obtain future survey work.
  • Stay abreast of new technology that can expand both current and future client bases. Seek growth opportunities for the company. May assist in strategic planning for firmwide surveying services. Qualifications
    • Bachelor's Degree in Surveying, Geomatics, or a related field and a minimum of 10 years of experience with at least 3 years demonstrating progressive experience in the management of survey projects and/or personnel.
    • Existing licensure as a PLS with the ability to become licensed in NC within 3 months of hire.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required.
    • Excellent writing and communication skills required.
