Job Title: RN - PCU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Progressive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12hr Day Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 18 months PCU experience required License: RN Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Cardiac gtt experience Cardiac rhythm interpretation Chest tube management Tracheostomy care Blood product administration Wound care and dressing changes Description: This position involves working in a Progressive Care Unit. The unit has 38 beds with an average patient census of 34. Common patient diagnoses include stroke, congestive heart failure, electrolyte imbalances, and arrhythmias. The patient-to-nurse ratio is 1:5. Support staff will include Certified Nursing Assistants for tasks such as vital signs, blood sugar checks, and patient care. A receptionist is available for support within the department. The charge nurse is typically free-floating. Phlebotomy and lab draws will be performed by lab staff, not from lines. There is a vascular access team available. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7. Hospitalists are available around the clock. Telemetry monitoring is supported by dedicated technicians. The facility uses an electronic medical record system. Additional technology includes IV pumps and medication dispensing systems. Travelers may be required to float to other facilities within their region and scope of practice. Weekend rotation is every other weekend, with no on-call requirements. Travelers are expected to work 75% of holidays. Requests for time off can be approved for up to 6 days, excluding holidays. The unit culture is described as positive and family-oriented.
