TITLE: Public Health Nurse I GRADE: 72 SALARY: $33,811 - $50,815 DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Coordinates all patient activities related to Communicable Disease, HIV, STD. Receive reports from community, i.e. infection control nurse at hospitals, physicians, Health Department clinics, other health departments, community residents, reference labs etc., for all reportable communicable diseases. Investigate validity of report and if valid institute appropriate control measures. Serves on health department Epi Team. Also serves as Immunization Coordinator and may work in other clinics as necessary and time allows when not working in Communicable Disease, HIV, STD. --- This position will be responsible for assuring essential public health services through disease surveillance, investigation, prevention and control, and reporting. Coordinates all patient activities related to communicable disease. Receives reports from community, i.e. infection control nurse at hospitals, physicians, Health Department clinics, other health departments, community residents, reference labs etc., for all reportable communicable diseases. Investigates validity of report and if valid institute appropriate control measures. Serves on health department Epi Team. --- Documentation of North Carolina Electronic Disease Surveillance System training and updates as --- Blood borne pathogens surveillance and monitoring. --- TB coordinator, attend quarterly TB regional meetings. Assist staff/community with TB guidance. --- Documentation of TB required training in first year of employment. --- STD/HIV follow- up and assist with control measures. --- Rabies Control. --- Work with departmental and local administrators in coordinating efforts of disaster preparedness. --- Documentation of on-line Introduction to Communicable Disease Surveillance and Investigation in North Carolina in first year of employment. --- Recognizing and isolating outbreaks of infectious diseases in healthcare settings and in the community at large. --- Creating strategies and action-plans for the prevention of outbreaks. --- The investigation of possible outbreaks and the marshalling of proper resources in response in the event of a confirmed outbreak. --- Serving as an infectious disease consultant for both healthcare providers and members of the community KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Self-motivated; ability to relate well with others and respect varying views and opinions. License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation: Graduation from a four-year college or university with a BSN which includes a Public Health Nursing rotation and one year of experience in Public Health Nursing; or graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing and two years of professional nursing experience including one year in public health or an equivalent combination of education and experience. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Applicants must have a valid NC driver's license and reliable transportation. All applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit to a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use. A criminal records check will be conducted.
