Position Summary
The Student Affairs IT System Administrator (Admin) has primary responsibilities for providing IT systems guidance, project management, business analysis and change management expertise and infrastructure support for the Student Affairs Division. The Student Affairs IT System Admin will work collaboratively between Student Affairs teams and the ITS department to manage IT projects and ensure systems are running optimally to best benefit the student experience.
The employee in this position works closely with business products and systems that are essential to the daily operations of UNC Asheville Student Affairs. This position will be responsible for maintaining all vendor systems, custom developed systems/solutions, and creating new solutions as needs are identified, and integrating existing "off the shelf" systems with each other and the aforementioned custom solutions to better support the technology needs of Student Affairs. This position collaborates in the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of division systems to support work processes. This position will serve as hands on IT support and will be responsible for the maintenance, functionality, security, configuration, troubleshooting, and reliable operation of technology systems, assist in installation of hardware and software, and participate in research and development to continuously improve, document, and keep up with the IT needs that impact the student experience. The ability to understand various systems and serve as a connection between the end user, IT staff, and system vendors is a critical function of this position.
The Student Affairs IT Administrator will collaborate with fellow Student Affairs staff to evolve their strategic technology use and application as a shared responsibility to provide effective and efficient services to our students.
Specific day to day responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Serve on implementation teams when new software or systems are being added within Student Affairs.
  • Serve as the main point of contact and technical resources for troubleshooting issues across the wide array of Student Affairs systems. Facilitate team involvement in resolving difficult technical issues. This would include communicating between the Student Affairs team, University ITS team, and vendors.
  • Liaison between IT and Student Affairs for all computer refreshes, lease agreements, new equipment additions, etc.
  • Manage updates and upgrades for systems managed, installing and configuring software.
  • Vendor management and ensuring contract deliverables are met. Work with vendors for upgrades, enhancements, or to resolve issues independently, connecting with University ITS staff as needed.
  • Stay well-versed in IT, particularly relevant applications and platforms and enterprise operational capabilities, strategies, and applicable compliance requirements, including FERPA .
  • Examine current and forecasted business and technology requirements, identify gaps.
  • Connect division processes and data flows to the technical software applications needed to ensure smooth flow of operations.
  • Perform data analysis and system checks to support continuous improvement of processes and systems. This position requires on-site work to meet responsibilities to support Student Affairs and systems and projects. This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with some remote work consistent with the University's Flexible Work Arrangements policy.
    This position will be expected to secure and handle sensitive and/or confidential information.

    Required Education/Experience/Skills
    Bachelor's degree and two years of experience in IT project management or technical project management related work; or a Master's degree an equivalent experience. All degrees must be from an appropriately accredited institution.
    Preferred Education/Experience/Skills
    Bachelor's degree in computer science, business administration, or closely related degree and three to five years of experience in IT work or a Master's degree and equivalent experience. Prior experience as a business analyst/systems analyst would also be helpful in this role. Prior experience in a University setting.
    Experience collaborating with technical and non-technical staff to complete tasks and projects.
    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to interpret technological and system information between end users, vendors, and ITS staff.
    Strong attention to detail.

      • Ability to apply project management best practices.
      • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
      • Ability to interpret and make solutions for complex technical problems relatable and understandable. Ability to facilitate discussion between technical and non-technical staff.
      • Ability to oversee implementation of systems, coordinate testing, and assess application of programs and performance.
      • Assist in the continuous availability, functionality, security, integrity, and documentation of division systems and products.
      • Demonstrated experience creating, analyzing and documenting business processes and technical requirements.
      • A strong desire and ability to establish standards and best practices to create sustainable systems.
