Job Summary

Will work under the general supervision of the MRI Manager, site-specific Lead Tech or Radiologist. The technologist is responsible for the independent operation of the MRI equipment achieving high-quality images, maintaining an optimal level of patient care, while working with patients of all ages. The technologist is responsible for screening all patients and staff entering into zone 3 and 4 to ensure magnet safety. Accountabilities

  • Arrange transportation for patients. Identify patients by using two patient demographic identifiers. Communicate with nursing or physician concerning patient. Inform nursing of patients that need sedation. Communicate with patient/floor concerning MR questionnaire and other pertinent clinical history. Explains MR procedure to patient and/or family member. Obtains completed questionnaire and proper history and clinical from patient, floor or physician's office. Informs patients and families of all delays (including call inpatient's room when procedure is delayed more than 1 hour) - 40%
  • Positions patients accurately for all MR procedures. Patients are transferred and positioned correctly for anatomy to be demonstrated for best visibility. Proper surface coils are chosen.

Know scanning protocols in depth. Performs procedures correctly using protocol book for reference. Imaging studies must be done in a timely manner, charged appropriately and then taken to the radiologist for interpretation as soon as possible after completion of exam. Archives, transfer and places images the MRI reading area upon completion. MRI manager evaluates staff based on performance expectations that reflect their job responsibilities to include Point of Care testing. - 20%

  • Obtains appropriate supplies and prepares room for patient. Injects para-magnetic contrast material using proper technique. Injects contrast material properly, based on type of contrast needed for the particular body part and size of the patient. Uses proper sterile technique. - 5%

  • Assure the relieving shift has received hand off communication about the patients prior to them leaving the work area. Keep the room cleaned and stocked at all times. - 5%

  • Responds to codes and other emergency situations appropriately. - 5%

  • Assist other technologists in other rooms during down time. Assists in training co-workers and students. - 5%

  • Reports equipment problems to supervisor, in-charge tech and documents confirmation number appropriately. - 5%

  • Communicates effectively with physician as necessary to ensure adequate protocols and images are performed. Procedures must be performed as directed by the radiologist. Demonstrates recognition of anatomy and pathology as related to scan being processed. - 5%

  • Achieve Patient Satisfaction for Prisma Health. Results will be entered on the annual evaluation from the Patient Satisfaction scorecard located on the C2E website under the Experience Pillar. Adheres to the Standards of Behavior. - 10%

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

  • This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.

Minimum Requirements

  • Associate's Degree - Completion o accredited radiology programs.
  • 1 year - MRI experience.

Required Certifications/Registrations/Licenses

  • ARRT- RADIOLOGICAL TECHNOLOGIST
  • MRI TECHNOLOGIST CERTIFIED

In Lieu Of The Minimum Requirements Listed Above

  • Graduate of MRI program from Greenville Tech and MRI clinical was completed at GMH will be considered in lieu of experience.

Other Required Sills and Experience

  • Patient Equip (Vitals, Suction, Defib)
  • PACS
  • Cardiac, fMR, Perfusion and Spectroscopy experience - Preferred
  • Experience on Phillips equipment - Preferred
