Position Summary The Equipment Mechanic/Grounds Worker is responsible for the maintenance and repair of College vehicles and equipment, such as trucks, mowing equipment, and buffers. They are also responsible for maintaining the grounds and landscaping at the College. Requirements of the Position Minimum Qualifications and Education Requirements High school diploma or equivalent Two (2) or more years' experience diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining gasoline and diesel engines Technology Skills: MS Office skills, Word, Excel, Outlook; basic computer skills Preferred Skills Coursework in repair and maintenance of gasoline and diesel engines History of working alone and in a group to complete tasks Experience with basic horticultural procedures and the basic hand tools associated Experience operating and repairing standard custodial equipment Specific Role and Responsibilities Equipment Mechanic Diagnose problems in vehicles and equipment Schedule and assign or perform general repair work on light and heavy vehicles and equipment such as automobiles, trucks, tractors, mowing equipment, and other related items Repair and maintain custodial cleaning equipment such as vacuums, floor scrubbers, buffers, carpet cleaners, and other related equipment Perform mechanical and electrical repair work on vehicles and equipment Order vehicle and equipment parts in conjunction with the supervisor Maintain maintenance records for vehicles and equipment serviced Grounds Work Maintain grounds, streets, walkways, and sidewalks by mowing, picking up debris, patching streets and parking lots, painting traffic markings, and installing traffic signs Trim, rake, edge, weed, and pick up trash on the College property Cultivate flower beds, plant, trim, and prune shrubs and trees Operate various equipment such as tractors, mowing equipment, chainsaws, edger, and other related equipment in the performance of duties Construct and maintain concrete sidewalks and walkways on campus Maintain tools and equipment Complete other assignments as directed by supervision. General Employee Responsibilities Comply with local, state, and federal guidelines and laws. Comply with Northeast State Community College and Tennessee Board of Regents policies, procedures, and guidelines. Comply with SACSCOC (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges) Principles of Accreditation, policies and guidelines. Promote and maintain College and TBR Mission, Vision, and Values. Promote and comply with Northeast State Community College SAFE Campus programs. Maintain digital calendar and archive annually on June 30. Provide supervisor with access to calendar and an archived copy of calendar for annual performance review. Seek efficiencies and continuous improvement in both position and personal growth. Lead/promote College and TBR initiatives as they relate to this office. In all duties assigned, show a commitment to quality, customer service, and Northeast State Community College: to include students, College employees, and the community served by Northeast State. Be an active and contributing part of the Northeast State Team. Follow professional code of conduct and ethics; maintain professional dress in compliance with expectations of the position. Demonstrate a commitment to inclusive excellence. Complete other assignments as directed by supervisor/President. Utilize effective people skills in working with internal and external customers. Additional Notes This position requires extended periods of standing, walking, lifting, pulling and pushing. This position requires the ability to bend, twist, stoop, squat, as well as the ability to grasp and handle. This position requires working around loud noise levels, chemicals, fumes, dusts, and unfavorable climatic conditions.
