As part of BASF's North American Apprenticeship Development Program (NAADP), apprentices participate in a 12-month program offering hands-on work experience in BASF's chemical manufacturing plants while attending community college to earn a company paid basic certificate in process technology. While participating in the NAADP, apprentices will be offered paid tuition, wages, and access to benefits. After the successful completion of the NAADP, apprentices will have earned a basic certificate in process technology and received on the job training directly related to the BASF Production Technician roles. Potential start date is January 10th of 2021. Apprentices will report to the Operations Manager who, along with the assigned sites' manufacturing staff, will support the Apprentice throughout the NAADP. Entry Level Pay Rate - $18.50 Operator Apprentice - Clemson, SC Purpose: A Operator Apprentice in the Manufacturing Unit works from specific verbal and/or written instructions to operate the appropriate process equipment to produce a consistent product. Major Responsibilities: Blend Plant Operations: Use product recipes to produce blended resin systems in multiple blend vessels including the PSM process. Have knowledge of raw materials and the hazards, locations, etc. of those raw materials and knowledgeable of the process equipment. Use interface screens to the process control system to add exact quantities of chemicals to match product recipes, follow step-by-step batch instructions, and take samples as required. Load drums, totes, cylinders, and tank trucks with the final product from production vessels to meet customer requirements. Unload raw materials via tank truck to bulk storage tank, tank truck to tote, and box vans of drums & totes. Follow standard operating procedures to unload and check-in various raw materials for production. Support in updating operational procedures. Assist the Raw Material Op I with collecting the numbers for monthly tank strapping. Cylinder Management: Handle the receipts of shipments of Autofroth Cylinders. Transfer of resin or isocyanate chemical to the necessary shipping containers for shipment to customers. Fill, document, paint, stencil, and label resin and isocyanate cylinders in accordance with customer standards. In addition, build new cylinders. Drain or purge (into family cylinders or tanks) resin cylinders and manage drain stand operations. Assist in the neutralization of isocyanate drums. Assist in maintenance of cylinders by rebuilding the valves, fittings and instrumentation, inspecting, cleaning, and maintaining appropriate documentation on resin and isocyanate cylinders. Ensure care packages are made for each cylinder shipment. Assist operations team in efficiently running Cylinder building by staging cylinders in appropriate areas and monitoring and assisting with process the backlog of cylinders. Shipment Management: Secure cylinders to specialized flatbeds, track vans, and box vans. Handle the shipments of drums, totes and cylinders via LTL and truckload quantitates. Operate switcher to assist in the movement of trailers, flatbeds, etc. Have a good knowledge of BOL and shipping paperwork to correctly and safely ship material from the warehouse to the customer location. Be Forklift and Yard Dog/Switcher certified EHS: Be an integral part of the site's safety culture. This individual is responsible for certain areas of the plant from a safety and housekeeping perspective. Master a certain number of standard operating procedures. Train in Department of Transportation (DOT). This individual must be able to understand hazard communication and DOT/OSHA requirements for chemical transportation, storage, and handling.
