The Citizen Times/citizen-times.com, part of the USA TODAY NETWORK,
is seeking a social issues and education reporter eager to write
impactful stories that will get the community talking and
This reporter will cover social issues, including economic
disparities, race relations, gender equality and more. As Asheville
and Western North Carolina become increasingly popular
destinations, and in a state that has been home to ICE raids,
gerrymandered congressional districts and the opioid crisis, this
beat is ripe with stories.
In covering education, this is more than a beat that relies on
school board meetings. We want a reporter who will dig deep on K-12
issues that concern parents, teachers and administrators; on trends
across districts; and more.
The ideal candidate knows that good storytelling often includes a
video component, so some video experience is preferred. In cases of
breaking news on the beat, this reporter would need to build a
story quickly for digital platforms and then know how to advance
the story with an engaging lead and well sourced copy.
