Save Duties Summary This position is located in a Forest Service research unit. The incumbent of this position serves as the primary financial assistant to the Program Manager (PM) or Project Leader (PL), and other professional staff, coordinating a wide variety of administrative and clerical tasks essential to the administration of the research unit. For itional information about the duties of this position, please contact Tina Bailey at ************ and ******************** Responsibilities Provides technical and procedural advice in support of research unit administration by identifying and analyzing issues and taking or recommending action using established guidelines. Participates in research unit planning support work such as budget coordination/tracking, and purchasing/procurement of supplies and equipment. Assisting in developing and executing the annual budget, e.g. monitoring spending, tracking and providing information on costs, and reviewing for consistency, accuracy, and procedural/reporting requirements. Serves as the primary administrative business process point of contact for the research unit; Maintains tracking logs, action items, manages administrative suspense items and transaction records. Responsible for the administrative oversight of various business processes, which may include processing financial, procurement, property, and other administrative instruments for the research unit. Advises on procedural and documentation requirements for the Current Research Information System (CRIS) projects, research plans, annual progress reports, and cooperative agreements, and grants. Develops and implements new systems or administrative processes to meet research unit needs (e.g., Administrative Office Procedures Handbook, manuscript/abstract action tracking system, files maintenance, etc.). May serve on special committees or special projects in either a lead or supporting role; Performs other duties as assigned. Travel Required Occasional travel - Overnight travel 1-2 times per year to other Forest Service offices or to attend training. Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the eligibility and qualifications requirements as defined below by the closing date of the announcement. S p ecialized Experience Requirement: For the GS-7 grade level: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 level which includes: One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-6. Specialized Experience is defined as 3 out of 4 of the following: - Establishing and maintaining manual and electronic records and filing systems and producing written documentation, reports, memorandums, etc . in final format. - Identifying and recommending ways of combining, simplifying or improving administrative and clerical office procedures and processes; - Scheduling conferences and meetings, including making travel arrangements, arranging logistics, preparing agendas and handouts, preparing required meetings management documents and notifying participants; - Providing assistance with the resolution of issues related to budget, accounting and grants and agreements. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
