Job Description:

Embeds tissue from surgical procedures.Performs cutting and staining.
Operates computerized laboratory equipment to fix, dehydrate, and infiltrate with wax, tissue specimens to be preserved for study by the Pathologist.Labels requisitions, specimen containers, cassettes and/or slides and affixes coverslip to slides.Maintains laboratory equipment and tracks all routine maintenance and quality controls performed.Operates, cleans, and sterilizes laboratory equipment, glassware, instruments, and workstations.Files, retrieves, and distributes blocks, slides, and pathology reports.
Disposes of hazardous chemical waste per regulatory guidelines
Minimum Education
High School Diploma or Equivalent required
Associate or Bachelor's Degree in Biological Science or completion of an accredited histology program preferred
Required Skills
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.Required Skills
Certifications:
ASCP Certification as HT or HTL preferredMinimum Work Experience
Five years of experience in histopathology under the supervision of a Pathologist required with minimum education of High School Diploma or Equivalent.
