The Staff Engineer, Product Optimization Engineering is part of the Laboratory Products Division (LPD) which unites deep scientific expertise, a collaborative culture and rich resources to deliver the lab equipment and consumables that our customers need to achieve their scientific goals quickly, reliably and safely. How will you make an impact?
The Staff Electrical Engineer will provide leadership to manage support of New Product Development (NPD) projects, Product Optimization Engineering (POE) projects, and support for reengineering existing products for our Manufacturing Center of Excellence (COE). The engineer will have project responsibilities for both Asheville, NC and Marietta, OH. The position will reside in Asheville, NC.
What will you do? Provide leadership, supervision and coordination for design activities related to existing products and custom equipment manufactured in Marietta and Asheville..Responsible for performance coaching and/or counseling of individuals relating to safety, quality, productivity, attendance and/or behaviors to include disciplinary action if required to resolve performance issues.Supervise and evaluate the training of all direct reports.Train, coach and evaluate employees to develop each to their greatest potential through ongoing, timely feedback and the Performance Management & Development (PMD) process.Communicate the values of Integrity, Involvement, Innovation, Intensity, Customer Focus and Performance Driven to employees through daily actions, verbal communications and focus on role model leadership.Work with Global Research and Development (R&D) teams to maintain alignment on business unit R&D and POE roadmaps and resources in Marietta.Ensure site revenue stream maintenance by prioritizing availability issues as they arise.Manage and balance workload using a combination of internal and external resources.Utilize India Engineering Center as primary resource for cost reduction and obsolescence projects.Work effectively with global cross-functional teams during all phases of the Toll-Gate NPD process and quality project support.Communicate with internal product compliance team to address compliance issues that will impact product manufacturing or design.Continued improvement of the global Existing Product Change process.Manage design related activities with the local engineering change process to provide accurate and timely response to operational issues.Work closely with outside suppliers and Business Unit product Managers to identify opportunities for improvements to currents designed products.Act as point of contact to the assigned Business Unit and commercial teams.
How will you get here? EducationBachelor degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Systems Engineering preferred Experience5-8 years Engineering experience dealing with electro/mechanical devices that are regulated by third party agencies such as FDA, NSF, CSA, UL , ISO 13485 standard and others in the medical products industry required.Previous supervisory skills in manufacturing environment preferred.Must possess a thorough knowledge of CAD and NC programming, design and manufacture of Thermo Fisher productsStrong project management, communication and organizational skillsHigh levels of self-discipline, drive, and a proven ability to lead a small cross functional project teamAbility to integrate global standards and regulations into designAbility to travel as required, Working conditions require the ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, climb stairs, work at a computer station and on manufacturing shop floorAbility to frequently lift up to 20 lbs; occasionally lift 40 lbsAbility to work effectively in a team environment
