Category Construction Inspection Description Greenman-Pedersen, Inc. is seeking full-time Transportation Construction Inspectors to join our expanding team in North Carolina. Inspection and documentation duties involve all phases of construction on bridge, highway and maintenance projects throughout North Carolina, specifically in the following areas: Greensboro, Fayetteville, Wilmington, Charlotte, and Asheville. Responsibilities: Perform technical duties associated with the oversight, administration and inspection of transportation projects, including roadway, bridge, rail, and pedestrian to determine contractor's compliance with the contract, plans and specifications; Observe and inspect various contractor's operations to include clearing and grubbing, earthmoving, paving, concrete pavement, bridge construction, pipe installation, traffic control, pavement marking, etc.; Work is subject to review by higher-level technical and professional staff; Materials sampling and testing; Prepare material reports and daily diaries; Perform a variety of calculations, computations and documentation associated with the project inspection and material testing; Inspect erosion control devices for plan and permit compliance; Verify line and grade with survey equipment; Prepare field books for contractor payment documentation; Attend meetings and interact with third party construction personnel Note: This is a full-time position with competitive pay based on experience. Position Requirements Minimum Requirements: 2 years of highway related construction or inspection experience preferred; DOT-based certifications preferred: NCDOT Concrete, NCDOT QMS Roadway, NCDOT Conventional Density, NCDOT ABC Sampling, NCDOT Borrow Pit Sampling, NCDOT Level II Erosion & Sediment Control Must be able to work nights and weekends as required, to any assigned project within the State of NC Works productively in a team environment as well as work independently Flexible - can adapt to shifting priorities Can take direction from others and in turn can provide guidance to others Qualified candidate must have a valid driver's license and retain a clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for final consideration. Ability to read and understand plans and direction given in the English language Ability to write in English Basic computer skills Possess the ability to stand on your feet for approximately 3 hours minimum a day up to 8 hours a day. Possess the ability to traverse a construction job site consisting of uneven ground varying in height and consistency of material Variation of elevation 12" or less (mud, gravel, rutted ground etc.) Possess the ability to climb a ladder varying from 6 feet to 20 foot extension Be able to wear GPI standard PPE, i.e. hard hats, safety vest, work boots, safety glasses/goggles Be able to lift and or carry a weight of 30-50 lbs. (concrete inspection specimens and required equipment) Be able to work in a confined space by definition of OSHA.
